Episode 66: Backpacking is A LOT of Work

On this episode we share our tips for setting up camp after a long day of backpacking in the backcountry. What to do first, and why it’s so important. For most backpacking trips, some think it’s a mystical paradise of wonder…until they figure out that backpacking is a lot of work. Also, we’ll be giving shout outs to our Trust the Trail community who sighed up this week on out Trust the Trail Podcast Community on Facebook.

What we talk about:

  • Be aware of potential hazards like flash flooding, lightning, wind and dead trees/branches around your campsite-
  • In the backcountry, avoid staying on ledges or high peaks where wind and lightning could become a hazard.
  • Look up; if you see dead branches overhead, you should not camp under them.
  • We paid no attention to the huge crater in the ground…got flooded out.
