Episode 67: Hiking In Humidity

On this episode we discuss hiking in humidity – talking about the challenges it brings both physically and mentally. We will offer tips in how to combat the negative connotations it holds for most, preparing yourself to work with it and continue exploring the outdoors in even the most uncomfortable humid temperatures.

What we talk about:

  • DEFINING DRY HEAT vs HUMIDITY
  • At high altitude, the air pressure is lower than it is at sea level
  • Does Cotton really kill all the time?
  • What is the Heat Index and how to measure it
  • Cotton is hydrophilic, or water-loving

We have posted this graphic from the National Weather Service to provide a table of how to measure the heat index.

For example: if it’s 90 degree (air temp) and the relative humidity is 60%, you body feels like it’s 100 degrees.
